Sophie Moore

My research focuses on the nutritional regulation of ‘healthy’ fetal and infant growth, incorporating infant immune and brain development as outcomes, and on the mechanisms through which maternal, infant and childhood nutrition may influence development and later health. Much of my current research is based at the MRC’s field station in Keneba, The Gambia, but with implications for nutritional vulnerabilities globally.

I initially studied at the University of Newcastle and then received my PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2000. Prior to moving to MRC Human Nutrition Research (HNR), I worked within the MRC’s International Nutrition Group (ING) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2000-6 & 2012-14) where I led the Early Growth and Development Theme. Between 2006-12 I was Head of Station at MRC Keneba.
