My work in the field of medical research started in 2002 at the MRCG field station in Farafenni where I was part of a team that conducted a phase 2 trial of a malaria vaccine developed at the Oxford University. Most of my work from then until January 2007 focused on malaria e.g. The use of anti-larval sprays to kill mosquito larvae and the effects of sleeping under insecticide treated Bednet in reducing malaria prevalence. The latter is now incorporated into the Gambian Ministry of Health programme.
In January 2007, I moved to the MRCG Nutrition theme where I continued to work as a Field Assistant for various studies looking at nutritional supplements and their effects on immune function as well as growth and development. I later also work as a field supervisor responsible for taking part in the training and supervision of Field Assistants.
I was involved in the piloting of the fnirs study and presently work as the Field Coordinator for the BRIGHT study arm at the Nutrition theme hosted at the Keneba Field Station, MRCG.
I obtained a certificate in Integrated Rural Development at the Rural Development Institute. I also earn a Diploma in Project Management from the Oxford Distance Learning College in the UK.
